Needeya Islam leaves ADG
We must also say farewell to Needeya Islam, ADG's head of IR and Policy, who will be taking up a position at Cameron's Management when she returns from overseas leave. Needeya has been working with the ADG for over three years and in that time has been an excellent advocate for directors, building a comprehensive reserve of IR and policy documents and issues affecting directors that are an invaluable resource in the ADG's ongoing work advocating for directors. I know Needeya has greatly enjoyed working with ADG members and has appreciated your support and input into her work.
Members will be pleased to know that Needeya will remain on our IR and Policy committee wearing her new hat as a professional agent. We are sad to lose Needeya and we all wish her the best in her new position at Cameron's.
- Ray Argall.

Today the Australian Directors Guild announced the appointment of KINGSTON ANDERSON as its new General Manager. He will officially start on Monday 19th September.
Kingston comes to the ADG from a distinguished and versatile career in Management, Production and has been working in the screen industry for over fifteen years.
When accepting the new position Kingston said: "I am very excited to be working for the screen directors of Australia”, he said. “The ADG is vital in supporting and promoting Australian directors in all forms of screen directing. With screen content now being delivered across a range of platforms, it is increasingly important to ensure that directors receive appropriate recognition and remuneration for their creative work. The excellent work of Australian directors has long been recognized worldwide and the ADG needs to reflect this by becoming a strong, pro- active voice in the Australian screen industry.”
Ray Argall, President of the Australian Directors Guild said when announcing Kingston’s appointment “The ADG board are thrilled that Kingston is joining us at the ADG, and we look forward to introducing him to our members in the coming months. Kingston has excellent credentials in Management and is a great communicator with people. He has a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing directors and the key creative role directors have in telling screen stories. We also value his first hand experience as a creative, through his work as a producer of film and television and as a theatre director prior to joining the screen industry.”
One of Kingston’s first duties will be to oversee preparations for the ADG’s 30th Anniversary Awards in 2012. The date for Awards entries will be announced in the near future. He will also work closely to build a stronger national network ensuring that all States and Territories are represented in the Guild.

In Memory of Howard Rubie
We are very sad to announce that Howard passed away at Castlecrag Private Hospital on June 18, 2011
Howard has been a board member of the ADG for the past four years, and was one of the most experienced directors on our board.
The breadth of his experience as a director, producer, cinematographer, and assistant director (I only recently found out he was First AD on "Wake in Fright") has been invaluable, and we were indeed lucky to have his expertise on the board.
He was always passionate about the ADG and it's work advocating for directors. I will certainly miss his thoughtful contributions, patience and loyalty to our work, not to mention the many anecdotes of the film and TV industry which I could never tire of hearing.
He was a very caring and considerate person and all of us on the board always appreciated his contributions, he genuinely cared for everyone and really wanted to do whatever was necessary to improve the lot of directors.
Ray Argall
ADG President
From Our Members:
Howard Rubie was a true all rounder. He knew how every department worked. I remember watching his skillful handling of the action series SPYFORCE, shot on 5 day schedules. Later, while making a trailer for his feature film THE SETTLEMENT, I had the opportunity to study how good a director of actors he was. Sad to see him go.
Brian Trenchard-Smith
Howard was one of the most approachable directors I’d ever been fortunate to work with.
His warm, generous spirit and patience and advice to talent and film crews was remarkable. Phil Avalon, AVALON FILMS
I didn't know Howard well, but certainly appreciated his insights, his method and manner on the Board when we shared a few meetings over several years.
with best regards, JH
I was so shocked to learn today of Howard's death. How could that be? He was a fine, decent man and I never heard one word of crticism come from him regarding anyone. He seemed too wise and too....decent. His manner and attitude should be a guide to the rest of us. He was also a fine director and producer, as well as being an early, accredited member of the ACS. I always enjoyed it when our paths crossed, and always left him feeling a little better.
Regards
Geoffrey Nottage

ADG CONFERENCE 2011: Crossing the Line is Now Over
The Conference for 2011 is now over and was a great success!
Message from the ADG
I'd like to say congratulations to all for a most successful conference, informal feedback has been very strong about the quality of speakers, the topics covered and the friendliness of the staff in dealing with all the delegates. - Ray Argall, President of the Australian Directors Guild
Message from the Conference Chair
A very big thanks to our ADG Conference guest speakers who made time to share the intimate details of their directing process. And to our delegates who gathered in Adelaide to engage with our program. We, at ADG, hope the chemistry created during those three days will trickle into the 'uber' culture of Directors in this country. We hope you went home inspired. - Kay Pavlou, Conference Committee Chair
